Planning to transfer a large file? If so, then please read this paragraph before you proceed. The length of time that it takes to transfer data depends on the amount of data and the robustness of your network connection to the FTP site. The larger the file and/or the slower the connection, the more likely an interruption can occur that will result in incomplete or corrupt data. If the amount of data that you would like to transfer exceeds 2GB, then you should consider placing it on media such as CD or tape and mailing it to the SAS employee. If that is not a viable option, then please notify the SAS employee so that other arrangements can be made with the SAS IT division to transfer the data. (The size of the data is not necessarily limited to 2GB; however, 2GB should be considered a general limit at which it becomes more likely that problems will occur during the transfer process.)
1. Right-click the 'Start' button and select 'Open Windows Explorer' from the menu that appears.
A Windows Explorer window similar to the following screen capture will appear.
2. Replace whatever appears in the 'Address' field with the following URL —
— and then press the 'Enter' key.
The SAS FTP 'incoming' directory will appear to be completely empty, which is normal. (For security reasons, the contents are hidden.)
3. Keep the 'incoming' directory window open, but set it aside for a moment.
4. If the file that you would like to transfer to the SAS employee is located on the desktop of your PC, then you can proceed to step #5; otherwise, open a second Windows Explorer window and navigate to the location of the file that you would like to transfer to the SAS employee.
5. Drag and drop (or copy and paste) the file from its current location (the desktop of your PC or the second Windows Explorer window) into the 'incoming' directory window.
That is all there is to it!
Please read the following important notes:
· The file that you copied into the 'incoming' directory window will be visible only to you and only until you refresh the window. Once you refresh the window, the file will become invisible to you, as well.
· The file will be available for the SAS employee to pick up within 30 minutes. The SAS employee should allow 30 minutes for the file to become available.
